VPN client connects but can't ping any hosts Below is the configuration of a PIX 501, which I want to accept connections from VPN software clients. I can successfully connect to the PIX using the VPN client 5.0.0.7.0290, and I can ping the PIX at 192.168.5.1, but I can't ping or connect to any hosts behind the PIX. If I try to ping an address e.g. ping www.google.com I won't receive any packets: PING www.google.com (216.58.204.68): 56 data bytes --- www.google.com ping statistics --- 4 packets transmitted, 0 packets received, 100% packet loss But it has resolved the domain name to an IP address. Brilliant. The above solution didn't work for me (regarding adding a ".something") because it already has one. Mine is ardee.local. Same scenario, can do an nslookup ardee.local, but can't do ping ardee.local. So restarting the dnscache works here. – Ardee Aram Jun 11 '13 at 4:59
Oct 26, 2001 · Run Winipcfg at the W98 machine and see if you have a DNS server then ping the DNS server to see if it is available. Also make sure you haven't overridden the IP entries at the client. Leave all entries blank for DHCP. Finally, check to see if you are making assumptions about a DNS suffix at the client. But, if I try and change the router's settings to set the pi as its DNS server (and change the laptop's DNS server back to the default), everything stops working. Jan 06, 2011 · Pinging yahoo.com does not work, ie there is no response. Flushing the DNS and then re-registering had no affect either. Printing/displaying the DNS contents simply gave information about loopback. In safe-mode I am able to ping the DNS server and browse the internet.

May 10, 2012 · Based on your comment I removed the dns entry for the second DNS server (dc2) from the non-domain workstation so now it only see's one DNS server the one in which I am making changes on. I can ping the FQDN of the CNAME now. I am able to resolve the cname from bot dns servers without the FQDN on "DOMAIN" computers only.
